Number of Weeks During the reporting year the Library was Open to the Public.

The count should be based on the number of weeks the library was open for half or more of its scheduled service hours. Extensive weeks closed to the public due to natural disasters or other events should be excluded from the count. Use whole numbers only. If the library was open half or more of its scheduled hours in a given week, count as a full week. If the library was open less than half of its scheduled hours, do not count that week as being Open to the Public. Do not report more than 52 weeks per year.

Total Annual Public Service Hours For the Main Library

Include the actual hours open for public service for the main library.  Minor variations in public service hours need not be included. Minor variations may include a one-day closure for weather, emergency, or in-service day, or an emergency delayed opening or early closing.  Extensive hours closed to the public due to natural disasters or other events should be excluded from the count.

Public Service Weekly Hours Open for Main Library (Monday-Sunday)

Standard number of hours per week the library is open to the public Monday through Sunday, as posted for the public.  Do not include branch, bookmobile or other library outlet hours. Do not report an average of hours. Use two decimal places. Administrative units housed within a headquarter library should report the headquarter library hours.  Administrative units NOT housed within a headquarter library should report zero public service hours.

Does the library take advantage of the ten-week hour reduction option during periods when community -use patterns warrant?

Libraries may reduce weekend hours to 4 hours for ten weeks per year during periods when community-use patterns warrant.  A local library or member library within a library system may reduce total weekly hours by 3 hours per week during the 10-week period of reduced Saturday and Sunday hours if approved by the State Librarian. 24 PA C.S. § 9335(b)(3)(iii)
