The library provides opportunities for youth to learn about technology and use it to meet their educational and social needs. Technologies are constantly developing; therefore, the youth services librarian must maintain awareness of its changing implications for library service.
A youth services professional:
Keeps current on emerging and assistive technologies and is able to help with hardware, programs, and apps. Uses technology in programs when appropriate and inclusive.
Conducts hybrid and remote virtual programming when appropriate.
Educates and provides access to research on best practices for screen time to library staff, families, and caregivers.
Provides information and instruction on use of POWER Library and local library-provided digital content.
Understands the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) and provides Internet safety instructions to youth, families, and caregivers, when appropriate.
Assists with development of youth services content for library website and social media.
