Broadband and Digital Equity for Pennsylvania Public Libraries

Information for Pennsylvania libraries

Equity is Important: Covered Populations

Digital Equity will be achieved in Pennsylvania when all people who desire access to the internet can get connected and use the tools and resources on their connected devices to participate in the daily activities of working, learning, and living.

Consider the needs of the following special population groups as your library plans for technology:

  • low-income households
  • aging populations
  • incarcerated individuals
  • veterans
  • individuals with disabilities
  • individuals with a language barrier
  • racial and ethnic minorities
  • rural inhabitants

Digital inclusion is the work that your library will do to ensure that the needs of all members of your service area are considered in local plans.

Look at the data from the census about covered populations:  Mapping Digital Equity in Every State (census.gov)

(Somerset County Library and others have already signed up and proudly display the badge on their website.)
